The Avenues Pet Clinic recommends annual vaccinations for the protection of your pet.
Many of our vaccines have been shown to be good for three years.
However, studies show that 5-21% of the time your pet will not show protection one year after being vaccinated. These animals must be vaccinated every year to prevent these diseases from occurring.
Two studies done at the Avenues Pet Clinic (2005 and 2008), showed that one in four dogs (25%) do not have disease protection one year later. (Their protective antibody titer was too low.) These dogs were five to fifteen years old.
If you feel that your pet may not need to receive his/her vaccine, a simple blood test ($91.00-100.00) can be performed to see if he/she is protected.
Rabies, although now rare in the U.S., is 100% fatal. Rabies is present in Laramie County. Rabies is a disease we never want to see in our pets.
In Laramie County, rabies has been diagnosed in foxes, raccoons, squirrels, mice, and in 1% of the migratory bats. We see these animals living closer to our homes.
Annual rabies tag (city-county license) is $12.50. Rabies vaccine is an additional $3.50. Rabies is one of our safest vaccines. The $3.50 difference is cheap insurance.
