Dr. Rod Hartshorn graduated the University of California at Davis, and has been with Avenues Pet Clinic since Dr. Jean Cotton first opened the doors in 1983. Dr. Hartshorn has been practicing small animal medicine and surgery for 45 years, and served 21 years in the Air Force Veterinary Corps.
Dr. Hartshorn is board certified by both The American College of Laboratory Medicine (ACLAM) and the American College of Veterinary Preventative Medicine (ACVPM) and is also a member of the Veterinary Emergency and Critical Care Society.
In addition to his love of the practice, Dr. Hartshorn is an avid downhill skier and SCUBA diver. He and his wife Laura raise and competitively show Miniature Schnauzers, 30 of which have earned their AKC championship.
Dr. April Zander was born and raised in Cheyenne and is a graduate of East High School. She received her B.S. in Zoology from Michigan State University and then moved to Fort Collins to complete her DVM degree from Colorado State University. Dr. Zander worked at a mixed animal practice in Laramie for 4.5 years before relocating to Cheyenne.
In her spare time, Dr. Zander enjoys traveling, playing the piano, running, and spending time with family. She has a cat named Gus and an American Eskimo dog named Sadie.
Dr. Smith received his undergraduate degree from Colorado State University, getting his Bachelor of Science in Animal Science. He then continued at Colorado State University, receiving his DVM degree in2004. Afterward, he completed a one year internship at Wheat Ridge Animal Hospital, and spent one year in a surgical residency at Texas A&M University.
Dr. Smith loves performing surgeries of any type, whether orthopedic, oral or soft tissue.
Outside of work, Dr. Smith enjoys golfing, skiing, fishing, biking and hiking with his family, and watches his kids perform in sporting events and dance recitals at every possible opportunity.
